How have you strengthened the Sweaty Mama brand locally?
To strengthen the Sweaty Mama brand in my area I have tried to reach people in lots of different ways. I have done a lot of advertising on social media including Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. I have also contacted local papers who have written articles about me and mentioned my Sweaty Mama classes. I contacted a local radio station who did a full show with me and also live streamed it on facebook. I contacted a national radio station who were doing a show about my area an I got them to interview me. I have also organised a mother and baby event with stalls, facepainters etc which is great for advertising.
How did you feel starting up your franchise?
Starting my franchise was very scary. I was really lucky that my family were very supportive and thought it would be the perfect job for me and if anyone could make a success of it I could. Me and my husband had a goodlook at our finances and decided that we were in a position to go for it and we are certainly glad we did. We had prepared ourselves to not be making a profit to begin with as new businesses often don’t but that hasn’t been an issue at all and the classes are filling up as fast as im putting them on.
What would you say is your biggest day to day challenge?
The biggest challenge is my own worries that people won’t rebook at the end of their 6 weeks but this hasn’t been a problem at all and my rebook rate is amazing. I’ve barely lost a mama and a lot say they will be coming for as long as I keep teaching!! The most rewarding thing about the job is spending everyday with my daughter and getting to introduce her to a healthy lifestyle and amazing role models from such a young age
How is your life different now as a franchisee than in your old job
My life couldn’t be more different to when I had my old job. I used to work as a Road Haulage Manager – long, solitary hours sitting at a desk, with my phone and computer screen for company. Now my work benefits me (as well as my Mamas) in ways that I’d only ever dreamed of in the past. I feel rewarded physically, mentally & emotionally after every class! Being in a position where you get to inspire and empower women is amazing, especially at arguably the most draining, vulnerable (yet happiest) time of their life. Most women only get a few short months to enjoy their maternity leave, and when they choose to share some of that time with you (and let you interact and share in the joy of their baby) – it’s a privilege and a pleasure!
What single thing helped you make the decision to not go back to your job and to instead become your own boss?
Before becoming a franchisee I had made the decision not to go back to work until my children were at school, but when I heard about Sweaty Mama I knew it was my dream job, and I couldn’t let the opportunity pass me by! Sweaty Mama is a combination of so many things that are important to me; fitness, babywearing, creating a support network between new mums, helping women battle Post Natal Depression… there are so many faecets to this franchise, and as I meet new mums with new challenges, I am discovering new ones all of the time. Knowing that I could take my children with me, and that they would enjoy it too, was so reassuring. If I had to choose one single thing that helped me make the decision I would say it was experiencing the class myself, and meeting Hannah – she ensures every aspect of the franchise reaches the highest standards.
How has family life changed now compared to 2 years ago with you running your own business
2 years ago my daughter had just turned one, and I was in the early stages of pregnancy with my son. I honestly loved every thing about being stay-at-home mum, but I think Sweaty Mama has made me a better parent. I worried that I would struggle to divide my time between my kids and the business, but they complement each other so well. Being a Sweaty Mama instructor means I am providing a great role-model for my children; they watch me balancing work & home life, they watch me working to make other people feel good about themselves, and they watch me prioritising my physical & mental well-being. It doesn’t get much better than that! I also find myself more energised and focused on the days when we don’t have classes, as the session from the previous day has given me such a boost!
At Sweaty Mama we know every individual is different, that’s why we tailor our training to suit you. One to one training with your Franchise Manager ensures you are ready to start on your chosen date, whenever that might be.
Just some of the fantastic brands working with Sweaty Mama
“The Sweaty Mama team are great to work with. We are a proactive bunch who look out for one another and help each rather than trying to be competitive”
Heather Dryden, Sweaty Mama Clitheroe
Being a sweaty Mama instructor makes a huge difference to my work life balance. My classes are during the day when my little one isn’t in nursery so we get some great bonding time and still have the evenings free for family time with the husband too.
My work life balance is now much better than in my old job as I can choose when I work and for how long, making sure I still have plenty of time for me and my family. I still get to drop and pick the children up from school everyday 💖
Sweaty Mama has given me back my drive and passion for work x
SWEATY MAMA in comparison to my other job is just as rewarding and it’s still helping people but the difference is I can choose my hours and take my little one with me, saving £400-500 per month on childcare costs. Plus, I get to be with him everyday whilst still earning money.
The most rewarding aspect – being able to take my little one to work and seeing the smiles on the mum’s faces!
Thinking about where I have come in the space of three months is amazing. Using the strength of the brand rather than doing it on my own has allowed me to build up the business really quickly. Sweaty Mama gave me the branding, the choreography, the support and all the merchandise I needed to get started and earning quickly.
Sweaty Mama has allowed me to do something for myself and get balance back in my life. I get to exercise while still being with my toddler and it doesn’t impact on family time
After returning to a stressful job in Manchester after my second child just turned 5 months I realised I wanted a job that made me happy. I can plan my classes around my family life, I can be there for the important things which I previously has to miss. It’s enabled me to spend more time with my children and do a job I love ❤️
Sweaty Mama is a lot more flexible than my regular job, it’s fits around me so it makes it easier for me to plan things around my family. I don’t need to worry about childcare costs as my little one is with me for the classes and he loves it
